Terms of Service

1. Who may use Joi

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the service. You must also have the legal capacity to enter into this agreement, and you must not be barred from using the service under the law that applies to you.

One person, one account. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account, so keep your sign-in details to yourself.

2. What the service is

Joi connects two people for a live one-to-one video chat. We provide the matching and the connection. We do not introduce you to any particular person, guarantee that anyone is available at a given moment, or promise any outcome from a conversation.

3. Coins, prices and refunds

• Creating an account, setting a preference and being matched are not charged for.
• Live calls are paid for in coins, which you buy in advance.
• The rate is set per person and is shown to you before a call connects. You are not charged for a call you did not accept.
• Coins are a licence to use the service. They have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money, and cannot be transferred between accounts.
• Unused coins are refundable where consumer law in your country requires it. Coins already spent on a completed call are not.
• If you believe you were charged in error, contact us with the date and the account email and we will look at it.

4. How you must behave

You agree not to:

• Record, screenshot or redistribute any part of a chat.
• Involve anyone under 18 in a chat, in any capacity.
• Harass, threaten, impersonate, or attempt to defraud anyone.
• Ask another user for money, gift cards or transfers of any kind.
• Push another user onto a different platform, or use a chat to advertise, recruit or sell.
• Broadcast content you do not have the right to show, or content that is illegal where either of you is.
• Use automation, scripts or bots against the service, or try to circumvent its security.

5. Reports, suspension and termination

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we may do it without notice where the breach is serious or urgent. Reports are reviewed by people. A closed account does not get its unspent coins back where the closure was for a breach of section 4.

You can close your own account at any time, for any reason, without telling us why.

6. Your content

What you show on camera stays yours. We do not record it and we claim no rights over it. For anything you do upload — a display name, a profile photo — you give us the limited licence needed to display it inside the service, and nothing beyond that.

7. Availability

The service is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available in every country, and we may change or withdraw features. Live video depends on your connection and on infrastructure we do not own.

8. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profits or data, or for what another user does. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Where liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim arose.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects your rights, we will give notice in the service before it takes effect. Continuing to use Joi after that means you accept the new version; if you do not, close your account.
