Privacy Policy
This policy covers joivideochat.live and the Joi Video Chat service. It is written to be read, so the important part is first.
The short version
- Your chats are not published or archived. A live chat is relayed between the two people in it. There is no replay, no archive, and no way for you, for another user or for us to go back and watch one.
- We do not sell your personal data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
- You can delete your account and the personal data attached to it. Ask, and it happens.
Everything below is the detail behind those three lines.
What we collect
Because you gave it to us
- Account details: the email address or sign-in identifier you register with, and a display name if you set one.
- Anything you choose to add to a profile, which is optional and can be removed.
- Messages you send us, including reports and support email.
Because the service has to work
- Technical data: IP address, device and browser type, and the coarse region those imply. Used for security, abuse prevention and routing a video stream to the nearest relay.
- Usage data: when you signed in, that a chat started and ended, and its duration. Not what was in it.
- Coin balance and transaction records, which we are required to keep for accounting.
Because you reported something
- The report itself — the reason, your details and any screenshots you add — and the account it names. This is kept while it is under review and afterwards as part of the safety record.
What we do not collect
- What you say on camera, as content. Chats are not transcribed, not indexed, and not used to build a profile of you or to target advertising.
- Your contacts, your photo library, or anything else on your device that you have not handed over.
- Precise location. Your IP implies a region; we do not ask for or store GPS coordinates.
- Payment card numbers. Payments go through a payment provider; we see that a payment succeeded, not the card.
Why we are allowed to use it
Where the GDPR applies, our lawful bases are: contract (we cannot run an account or connect a call without the account data), legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, and keeping the service working), legal obligation (financial records), and consent where we ask for it — for example, optional analytics cookies. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.
Who we share it with
Only the providers required to deliver the service, and only the minimum each one needs: hosting and content delivery, the real-time video infrastructure that relays a call, a payment provider, and email delivery. They process data for us under contract and cannot use it for their own purposes.
We also disclose data where a valid legal order requires it. We do not volunteer it, and we do not sell it.
How long anything is kept
- Account data: while the account exists, and a short period afterwards to handle disputes and reversals.
- Technical and security logs: a rolling window, typically weeks rather than years.
- Transaction records: as long as tax and accounting law requires, which is longer than we would otherwise keep them.
- Reports and safety records: retained so that a pattern across accounts stays visible. This is the one category that outlives a deleted account, in a reduced form.
- Chat video and audio: no archive that can be browsed and no replay — a chat is not available to anyone once it has ended.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or hand it to another service. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Ask through the contact page or at [email protected]. We will answer within one month. We may need to confirm you control the account before acting — that requirement protects you, not us.
Children
Joi is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18, and an account we believe belongs to a minor is closed and its data deleted. If you believe a minor is using the service, report it and it will be treated as urgent.
Cookies
Covered separately on the cookie policy, including which ones are strictly necessary and which you can decline.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we do with your data, the date below changes and we say so in the service. Cosmetic edits do not get an announcement.

That is the whole policy
No archive, no replay, nothing sold — which is most of what anybody actually wants to know.
